Position Summary
The Flight Dispatcher is responsible for planning, releasing, and monitoring flights in compliance with aviation regulations and company standards. The role ensures safe, efficient, and economical flight operations through flight planning, weather analysis, fuel calculation, and coordination with flight crews and operational departments. The Flight Dispatcher shares joint responsibility with the Pilot-in-Command for operational control of flights.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Flight Planning & Monitoring
- Prepare and review operational flight plans, including route selection, fuel requirements, payload, and weather considerations.
- Analyze meteorological reports and NOTAMs to ensure safe flight operations.
- Monitor flights from departure to arrival and provide operational support when necessary.
- Recalculate flight plans in response to changing weather or operational conditions.
Operational Control & Coordination
- Exercise joint operational control with the Pilot-in-Command.
- Coordinate with air traffic control, ground handling, maintenance, and other operational units.
- Ensure compliance with civil aviation authority regulations and company procedures.
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of aviation regulations and operational manuals.
- Report irregularities and safety concerns in accordance with company safety management systems.
- Participate in emergency response procedures when required.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of flight releases and operational documents.
- Prepare operational reports and performance summaries.
About You
Job Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Aeronautical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field.
Certification:
- Valid Flight Dispatcher License from a recognized Civil Aviation Authority.
Experience:
- A minimum of four years’ relevant experience in airline operations or flight dispatch is preferred.
Additional Training:
- Training in aviation safety and operations systems is an advantage.
- Computer proficiency certificate required.
Competencies / Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of flight planning systems and aviation regulations.
- Ability to interpret weather charts and aeronautical information.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in flight planning software and operational control systems.
