Position Summary
The Construction Electrician is responsible for the installation, testing, and maintenance of temporary and permanent electrical systems on the construction site. This includes rough-in wiring, conduct bending, panel installation, and ensuring all work complies with the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) standards and safety codes. He/ She will be responsible for monitoring the subcontractor on site for all the electrical works by ensuring compliance with Uganda’s electrical codes and safety standards.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
· Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical wiring, conduits, junction boxes, distribution boards, and other components using hand and power tools.
· Read and interpret electrical blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
· Install temporary power supply for construction equipment, site offices, and night work lighting.
· Conduct continuity tests, insulation resistance tests (megger), and polarity checks before permanent connection.
· Conduct electrical testing to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
· Install earthing/grounding systems and lightning protection as per design.
· Diagnose and repair malfunctioning tools, equipment, or electrical systems on site.
· Support the civil team during night works by managing electrical demands.
· Ensure all installations comply with local codes (IEC/NEC) and safety regulations.
· Maintain records of work performed, materials used, and inspections conducted.
· Ensure safe use of electrical tools and equipment.
· Complete any project related task assigned to him by the site engineer.
Perform any additional related tasks as assigned by supervisors or management.
About You
Education & Experience
· Certificate or Diploma in Electrical Installation from a recognized institution.
· Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical installation in new construction projects (not just repair/maintenance).
· Valid ERA Certificate (Class C) from the Electricity Regulatory Authority of Uganda is an added advantage.
· Strong knowledge of Uganda electrical codes and safety procedures. Strong knowledge of three-phase systems, switchgear, cable sizing, and conduit bending.
