Position Summary

The General Manager – Weighbridge Services is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and operational management of all weighbridge operations. The role ensures accurate vehicle weighing, revenue assurance, equipment reliability, and compliance with company policies and government regulations.  The General Manager will oversee operational efficiency, staff performance, client relations, and financial performance of all weighbridge stations under the business unit.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. Operational Management

  • Oversee daily operations of all weighbridge stations.
  • Ensure accurate weighing of vehicles in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Maintain continuous operational efficiency and service reliability.
  • Supervise station managers and operational staff.

2. Revenue Assurance & Control

  • Ensure proper collection, recording, and reconciliation of all weighing fees.
  • Implement strong internal controls to prevent fraud and revenue leakage.
  • Review daily, weekly, and monthly revenue reports.

3. Equipment & Maintenance Management

  • Ensure all weighbridge equipment is properly calibrated and functional.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs with technical teams.
  • Ensure compliance with calibration standards and legal metrology requirements.

4. Compliance & Regulatory Management

  • Ensure adherence to national transport and trade regulations.
  • Liaise with government authorities and regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure all operations comply with safety and operational standards.

5. Staff Leadership & Management

  • Lead, supervise, and evaluate weighbridge station staff.
  • Provide training and capacity building for operational teams.
  • Enforce discipline, performance standards, and company policies.

6. Customer & Stakeholder Management

  • Manage relationships with transporters, logistics companies, and clients.
  • Address complaints and resolve operational disputes.
  • Promote service efficiency and customer satisfaction.

7. Reporting & Strategic Planning

  • Prepare operational and financial performance reports.
  • Support management in strategic planning and business growth initiatives.
  • Recommend improvements for efficiency and profitability.

Other requirements

1. Core Operational Skills

·       System Proficiency: High-level competency in digital weighbridge recording systems, software (like SAP or Oracle), and automated ticketing processes.

·       Measurement Accuracy: Deep understanding of measurement standards, calibration methodologies, and factors contributing to weight discrepancies.

·       Traffic & Fleet Management: Ability to design, organize, and optimize traffic flow around the facility to prevent congestion and bottlenecks.

2. Compliance & Legal Requirements

·        Regulatory Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of local and regional transport laws regarding vehicle weight limits, overloading penalties, and road safety.(EAAL)

·        Legal Enforcement Standards: Familiarity with static and dynamic (WIM) weighing systems, specifically which instruments are accepted for legal or commercial enforcement.

3. Risk & Safety Management

·        Health & Safety: Proven ability to promote a safety-first culture and enforce Chain of Responsibility (CoR) policies to manage public and commercial risks.

·        Infrastructure Maintenance: Oversight of routine care, repairs, and statutory calibrations of scale hardware and load cells.

4. Soft Skills & Commercial Acumen

·        Communication: Exceptional oral and written communication skills to liaise with drivers, plant staff, government agencies, and corporate management.

·        Data Analysis & Reporting: The capability to track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to reduce transit times and improve overall efficiency.

·        Conflict Resolution: Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities to handle customer disputes regarding weight discrepancies and rejected loads.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Logistics, or related field.
  • Master’s degree is an added advantage.
  • Professional certifications in management or logistics are preferred.

Experience

  • 10–15 years of relevant experience in operations, logistics, or transport management.
  • At least 5 years in a senior management role.
  • Experience in weighbridge operations or transport compliance is highly desirable.
