Position Summary
The Project Manager will lead and coordinate the overall delivery of the road construction project, including planning, construction, contract administration, cost, schedule, quality, health and safety, environmental and social compliance, and stakeholder coordination. The position will ensure that all road works are delivered in accordance with approved designs, contract requirements, technical specifications, applicable standards, quality requirements, approved budget, and project schedule.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
1. Project Planning and Management
· Lead the overall planning, implementation, monitoring, and control of the road construction project.
· Develop and monitor project execution plans, construction programs, resource requirements, and project priorities.
· Ensure road construction activities are properly sequenced and coordinated across all technical disciplines.
· Monitor project objectives, milestones, deliverables, risks, and overall project performance.
2. Construction and Technical Management
· Direct and coordinate construction activities including earthworks, drainage, subgrade, pavement, structures, and ancillary road works.
· Review and approve technical submissions, method statements, construction programs, and work plans within delegated authority.
· Coordinate Highway, Pavement, Geotechnical, Hydrology, Structural, Materials, Survey, and Site Engineering teams.
· Provide direction and technical support in resolving major construction and engineering issues.
3. Contract, Cost and Schedule Control
· Monitor project costs, quantities, variations, claims, payment matters, and contractual obligations.
· Coordinate with the Quantity Surveyor and Contract Engineer on commercial and contractual matters.
· Monitor the approved construction schedule and take corrective action to address delays and resource constraints.
· Review and support assessment of variations, extensions of time, claims, and other contractual matters.
4. Quality, HSE and Risk Management
· Ensure implementation of the project quality assurance and quality control requirements.
· Monitor compliance with approved specifications, inspection and testing plans, method statements, and quality procedures.
· Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and social requirements throughout the project.
· Identify major project risks and ensure appropriate mitigation and corrective actions are implemented.
5. Coordination and Reporting
· Lead coordination with the Client, Consultant, Contractor, authorities, communities, and other project stakeholders.
· Chair or participate in project coordination and progress meetings and ensure agreed actions are followed up.
· Review weekly and monthly progress, technical, commercial, and risk reports.
· Provide management with accurate information on project progress, challenges, decisions required, and corrective actions.
About You
Education
· Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Highway Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
· A Master’s degree or relevant professional certification is an advantage.
Experience
· Minimum 15 years of progressive professional experience in road/highway construction and engineering.
· Demonstrated experience managing major road, highway, or infrastructure projects involving earthworks, drainage, pavement, and structures.
· Strong experience in project planning, construction supervision, contract administration, cost control, quality management, and stakeholder coordination.
