Position Summary

The Structural Engineer will provide technical design, review, supervision, and construction support for structural works across road, highway, building, and infrastructure projects. The position will ensure that structural works are designed, coordinated, constructed, inspected, and completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, structural design requirements, applicable standards, quality requirements, safety requirements, and project schedules. The Engineer will coordinate closely with project management, architects, civil engineers, quantity surveyors, contractors, consultants, and other technical disciplines.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

1. Structural Design and Engineering

·        Prepare, review, and coordinate structural designs for buildings, bridges, culverts, retaining walls, foundations, drainage structures, and other infrastructure works.

·        Carry out structural analysis and design for reinforced concrete, steel, masonry, and other applicable structural systems.

·        Review structural calculations, design assumptions, load requirements, design criteria, and engineering reports.

·        Ensure structural designs are practical, constructible, economical, and compliant with applicable codes and project specifications.

·        Provide technical solutions for structural problems arising during design or construction.

2. Building Structural Works

·        Review and coordinate structural designs for foundations, columns, beams, slabs, staircases, retaining structures, and other building components.

·        Coordinate structural works with architectural, civil, MEP, and other building disciplines.

·        Review shop drawings and ensure structural details are consistent with approved design documents.

·        Provide technical support for reinforced concrete, steel, masonry, and other building structural works.

·        Inspect structural construction stages and verify compliance with approved drawings and specifications.

3. Road and Infrastructure Structures

·        Provide structural engineering support for bridges, box culverts, pipe culverts, retaining walls, headwalls, wing walls, drainage structures, and other road-related structures.

·        Review structural components associated with road and highway infrastructure.

·        Coordinate structural requirements with Highway, Hydrology, Geotechnical, Materials, and Site Engineers.

·        Review foundation conditions and structural interfaces and recommend appropriate engineering solutions.

·        Support structural inspections, testing, defect investigation, and remedial works.

4. Construction Supervision and Quality Control

·        Monitor structural construction activities and ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and quality requirements.

·        Inspect reinforcement, formwork, concrete placement, curing, structural steel, masonry, and other structural works.

·        Review concrete test results, material approvals, inspection requests, and quality records.

·        Identify non-conforming structural works and recommend corrective actions.

·        Support preparation and review of inspection and testing plans for structural works.

5. Technical Coordination and Documentation

·        Coordinate with the Client, Consultant, Contractor, Project Manager, Architect, Civil Engineer, Quantity Surveyor, and other technical teams.

·        Review technical submissions, RFIs, shop drawings, method statements, material submissions, and as-built drawings.

·        Resolve discrepancies between structural drawings, architectural drawings, civil works, and actual site conditions.

·        Prepare structural reports, technical recommendations, inspection reports, and design documentation.

·        Provide technical input for variations, claims, construction changes, and project completion.

6. Health, Safety and Project Compliance

·        Ensure structural design and construction activities consider relevant health and safety requirements.

·        Identify structural and construction risks and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.

·        Ensure works comply with project quality, environmental, safety, and contractual requirements.

·        Support handover, defects inspection, completion, and final structural documentation.

About You

Education

·        Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related field. A Master’s degree or relevant professional structural engineering certification is an advantage.

Experience

·        Minimum 10 years of progressive professional experience in structural engineering and construction.

·        Demonstrated experience in both building and infrastructure/road structural works, including reinforced concrete, steel, foundations, bridges, culverts, and retaining structures.

·        Strong experience in structural design review, construction supervision, quality control, technical coordination, and problem solving.

·        Good knowledge of applicable structural codes, engineering standards, construction drawings, specifications, and design documentation.
