Material Engineer

Position: Material Engineer

Position Summary

The Material Engineer is responsible for overseeing laboratory operations, ensuring quality control of construction materials, conducting tests and mix designs, and supporting production units such as crusher plants, batching plants, asphalt plants, and block production. The role also involves reporting, coordination, and business development to enhance laboratory performance and profitability.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

1. Laboratory Operations

·         Manage and coordinate all laboratory testing activities.

·         Organize laboratory structure with appropriate staffing and equipment.

·         Inspect and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure proper working condition.

·         Ensure all required tests are conducted; initiate procurement of additional equipment

·         when necessary.

·         Supervise daily activities and performance of laboratory staff.

·         Ensure staff competency, professionalism, and efficiency.

·         Monitor and maintain calibration schedules for all testing equipment.

·         Coordinate with other GS Group companies to meet testing and reporting requirements as

·         per client specifications.

·         Ensure all lab equipment are calibrated regularly

2. Concrete Quality Control and Testing

·         Conduct concrete mix design using standard methods.

·         Verify quality of raw materials in compliance with specifications.

·         Ensure proper sampling and testing procedures are followed.

·         Supervise tests such as sieve analysis, soundness, Los Angeles abrasion, and other required tests.

·         Maintain accurate records of all test results.

3. Soil Testing

·         Ensure proper sampling and testing of soil materials according to specifications.

·         Supervise operation and maintenance of testing equipment, especially CBR machines.

·         Ensure proper soil classification and accurate recording of test results.

·         Follow up closely on confined/unconfined material sampling and the subsequent triaxial test is conducted properly

4. Asphalt Testing

·         Perform asphalt mix design using the Marshall Method.

·         Ensure proper sampling and testing of asphalt materials.

·         Monitor functionality and maintenance of asphalt testing equipment.

·         Supervise testing of bitumen properties such as penetration, viscosity, flash point, and others.

5. Foundation Investigation

·         Ensure availability of required equipment and accessories for foundation investigations.

·         Supervise field and laboratory testing activities.

·         Ensure proper handling, storage, and maintenance of investigation equipment.

·         Support site teams in conducting accurate foundation investigations.

6. Plant Operations Support

·         Conduct regular visits to crusher plants, concrete batching plants, asphalt plants, and block production units.

·         Monitor and control product quality across all production sites.

·         Recommend improvements to enhance production efficiency and product quality.

·         Identify defects, analyze root causes, and propose effective corrective actions.

7. Reporting

·         Develop and improve laboratory report formats.

·         Ensure all reports are prepared, recorded, and maintained properly.

·         Verify that all reports meet client requirements and specifications.

·         Maintain organized and accurate records of all laboratory data and results.

8. Communication and Business Development

·         Maintain regular communication with GS Group management to ensure efficient operations.

·         Promote laboratory services to external clients to generate additional business.

·         Build and maintain strong client relationships through high-quality service delivery.

·         Enhance the visibility and reputation of the laboratory in the market.

·         Contribute to achieving company profitability through efficient and effective lab operations.

About You

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field is required. 

Additional certification in materials testing or quality control is an advantage.

Experience

• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
