Position Summary

The General Manager – Logistics, Freight, and Transport is responsible for leading and managing all logistics, freight, and transportation operations of the organization. The role involves strategic planning, operational oversight, and ensuring efficient, cost-effective, and compliant supply chain activities. The General Manager will oversee end-to-end logistics operations, optimize transportation systems, and ensure timely delivery of goods while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

1. Strategic Planning and Management

• Develop and implement logistics, freight, and transport strategies aligned with organizational goals.

• Oversee long-term planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.

• Identify opportunities for operational improvement and cost optimization.

2. Logistics and Transport Operations

• Manage day-to-day logistics, freight forwarding, and transportation activities.

• Ensure timely and efficient movement of goods locally and internationally.

• Oversee fleet management, warehousing, and distribution operations.

3. Supply Chain Coordination

• Coordinate with procurement, warehouse, and project teams to ensure smooth supply chain flow.

• Monitor inventory levels and ensure efficient stock management.

• Ensure proper planning and scheduling of shipments.

4. Stakeholder Management

• Liaise with clients, government authorities, customs officials, and service providers.

• Maintain strong relationships with logistics partners and vendors.

• Ensure effective communication across all operational levels.

5. Compliance and Regulatory Management

• Ensure compliance with local and international transport and logistics regulations.

• Oversee customs clearance processes and documentation.

• Ensure adherence to company policies and industry standards.

6. Financial and Cost Management

• Prepare and manage departmental budgets.

• Monitor operational costs and ensure cost efficiency.

• Approve expenditures and ensure proper financial reporting.

7. Health, Safety, and Risk Management

• Enforce health and safety standards across all logistics and transport operations.

• Identify and mitigate operational risks.

• Ensure compliance with occupational safety and environmental regulations.

8. Leadership and Team Management

• Lead, supervise, and develop logistics and transport teams.

• Provide mentorship, training, and performance management.

• Promote a culture of accountability, efficiency, and continuous improvement.

About You

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field.

• Master’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or MBA is an advantage.

• Professional certifications (e.g., CILT, CSCP, or equivalent) are highly desirable.

Experience

• 15–20 years of relevant experience in logistics, freight, and transport operations.

• At least 5 years in a senior management or leadership role.

• Experience in large-scale logistics operations or infrastructure projects is highly preferred.
