Position Summary
The Assistant Concrete Boom Pump Operator at GS Group Uganda supports the daily operation, positioning, and maintenance of truck-mounted and stationary concrete boom pumps on active construction sites. Working under the guidance of the Boom Pump Manager and the primary Operator, s/he ensures safe pump setup, assists with line management, handles heavy hose placement, and carries out rigorous post-operation cleaning. This physically demanding role is vital for maintaining high equipment uptime, ensuring site safety, and achieving smooth, efficient concrete placement.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Equipment Operation Support
· Assist the primary Operator with the safe positioning, stabilizing, and setting up of outriggers on the construction site.
· Help prime the concrete pump lines and prepare the machinery for immediate pouring.
· Monitor concrete levels in the hopper during pouring and alert the operator or truck driver of flow issues.
2. Hose Handling & Site Coordination
· Act as the primary hose holder, manually guiding and managing heavy discharge lines safely during concrete delivery.
· Maintain continuous visual and verbal communication with concrete placement crews and ready-mix truck drivers to match the delivery pace.
· Safely drag, connect, and disconnect delivery pipeline sections as pouring progress requires.
3. Rigorous Cleaning & Maintenance
· Lead the post-pour clean-out process, including washing out the hopper, pump cylinders, and flushing pipelines with clean-out balls.
· Perform daily pre- and post-operational inspections, checking oil, hydraulic fluid, water, and fuel levels.
· Grease moving components, clean structural parts, and report mechanical defects or servicing needs immediately to the Boom Pump Manager.
4. Safety & Hazard Compliance
· Follow all site health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations diligently.
· Keep a close watch on hose lines, structural stability, and pressure gauges to prevent blockages or hazardous line whipping.
· Ensure the work area surrounding the pump and ready-mix truck staging zone remains clear of safety hazards.
About You
Education & Experience
- Minimum of 1–2 years of practical experience working around concrete pumping, construction machinery, or ready-mix concrete environments.
- Licensing: Valid driving permit with appropriate classes for commercial/heavy vehicle support is highly desirable.
- Physical Stamina: Exceptional physical fitness; ability to lift, pull, and hold heavy concrete hoses and pipeline components for long shifts in outdoor weather.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Basic mechanical talent to troubleshoot minor system blocks or assist with routine machinery adjustments.
- Safety Aware: Basic understanding of concrete pressure hazards, truck stability, and site safety signals.
