Position Summary
The Cost Accountant is responsible for planning, analyzing, and controlling the organization's project and operational costs to ensure efficient utilization of resources and profitability. The role involves monitoring project expenditures, preparing cost reports, maintaining cost accounting records, analyzing cost variances, and supporting management with accurate financial information for decision-making. The Cost Accountant works closely with project managers, procurement, warehouse, and finance teams to ensure effective cost control across all company operations.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
1. Cost Accounting and Analysis
- Establish and maintain cost accounting systems and procedures.
- Analyze project, production, and operational costs to ensure cost efficiency.
- Prepare detailed cost reports and profitability analyses for management.
- Monitor direct and indirect costs and recommend cost-saving initiatives.
2. Project Cost Monitoring
- Track project expenditures against approved budgets.
- Monitor labor, equipment, materials, subcontractor, and overhead costs.
- Identify cost overruns and provide timely variance analysis.
- Coordinate with project teams to ensure accurate cost allocation.
3. Budgeting and Forecasting
- Assist in preparing project budgets and cost estimates.
- Support annual budgeting and financial forecasting processes.
- Monitor budget performance and report deviations.
- Recommend corrective actions to improve budget compliance.
4. Inventory and Material Cost Control
- Monitor inventory valuation and material consumption.
- Verify material issues and transfers against project requirements.
- Reconcile inventory records with warehouse and finance departments.
- Ensure accurate recording of inventory costs.
5. Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly cost reports and management reports.
- Support month-end and year-end financial closing activities.
- Ensure accurate cost allocation in financial statements.
- Provide financial analysis to support management decision-making.
6. Internal Control and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with company financial policies and accounting standards.
- Maintain proper documentation supporting all cost transactions.
- Participate in internal and external audits.
- Recommend improvements to strengthen financial controls.
7. System Improvement and Collaboration
- Work closely with Procurement, Warehouse, Project, and Finance teams to improve cost management.
- Ensure accurate costing within the ERP system.
- Support the implementation of process improvements that enhance operational efficiency.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Finance Manager or Management.
About You
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Additional training in Cost Accounting or Management Accounting is desirable.
Experience
- Minimum of 10–12 years of relevant experience in cost accounting or financial accounting.
- At least 3 years of experience in project costing, preferably in the construction, engineering, manufacturing, or infrastructure sector.
- Experience using ERP systems (such as Odoo, SAP, or Oracle) is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, budgeting, inventory management, and financial analysis.
