 Position Summary

The Contract Engineer will manage and support contractual administration for the road construction project, ensuring that contractual obligations, notices, variations, claims, payment matters, correspondence, and other contract requirements are properly monitored, documented, and administered.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

1. Contract Administration

·        Administer and monitor compliance with the road construction contract and contractual procedures.

·        Review contract conditions, specifications, drawings, BOQ, schedules, and other contractual documents.

·        Maintain contract registers, correspondence, notices, instructions, approvals, and contractual records.

·        Advise project management on contractual requirements and deadlines.

2. Variations and Change Management

·        Review and assess variations arising from design changes, site conditions, additional works, omissions, and instructed changes.

·        Coordinate with engineers and Quantity Surveyors to establish technical and financial implications of variations.

·        Maintain variation registers and monitor status of approvals.

·        Support negotiation and agreement of variations in accordance with the contract.

3. Claims and Extensions of Time

·        Review contractor claims, notices, extensions of time, disruption, delay, and associated supporting documentation.

·        Coordinate technical, schedule, and quantity information required for claim assessment.

·        Maintain records of delay events, notices, instructions, correspondence, and supporting evidence.

·        Prepare contractual assessments and recommendations for management review.

4. Payment and Commercial Coordination

·        Coordinate review of payment applications with the Quantity Surveyor and project management team.

·        Monitor contract value, approved variations, claims, payments, and financial exposure.

·        Support preparation of final accounts and contract close-out documentation.

·        Ensure payment and commercial records are properly maintained.

 

5. Contractual Risk and Reporting

·        Identify contractual risks and advise management of potential impacts and required actions.

·        Prepare contractual status reports and recommendations.

·        Support resolution of contractual disputes and negotiations as directed by management.

·        Ensure contractual correspondence and notices are issued and recorded within required timeframes.

About You

Education

·        Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Contract Management, or a related field. Relevant contract management certification is an advantage.

Experience

·        Minimum 10 years of progressive professional experience in construction contract administration, with significant road/highway project experience.

·        Demonstrated experience in variations, claims, extensions of time, payment certification, contractual correspondence, and final accounts.

·        Strong knowledge of construction contract administration and experience working on major road infrastructure contracts.
